There can be no doubt that climate change will continue to dominate the world stage for the foreseeable future and whether or not you believe what we’re told about melting ice caps, rising sea levels, devastation of habitats that sustain elements of the food chain it’s clear that much can be done to reduce the impact of humans on the planet. However of course it is not profitable. Which means what?
It means that while we are being held over a barrel (of oil) by the governments and oil producers no real effort is being put into finding sustainable alternative ways of generating electricity for light and heat because it won’t generate enough or as much profit. And not for one minute am I saying we need to reduce the amount that we use – hell no! It’s just possible that we can heat and light the whole world for all the humans in it by harnessing the energy from the sun and the oceans.
Solar energy is being used in many forms around the world but we haven’t begun to scratch the surface of its full potential. It’s the same for water and wind power.
Imagine - we can have a sustainable electricity supply where no human is without the necessary heat they need to survive. Where the energy is available to run hospitals and homes alike in the poorest countries and the farthest corners of the globe. This is possible. It is within our grasp. We need to open our minds to the possibilities that already exist and take the thought processes a bit further. Check out http://www.theoildrum.com/node/2583
